Challenges in Employee Training & Development: Using Digital HR during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Keywords: Training & Development, COVID-19, HR, Digital HR, Disruptive Technology

Abstract: This paper explores some of the challenges the field of Human Resources and Training and Development faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors surveyed 27 HR professionals to understand some of the challenges they faced and the subsequent changes made during the pandemic. The results show that while most HR functions were affected by COVID-19, choosing an appropriate Learning Management System (LMS) and inquiring about which methods suit employees best will continue to be vital considerations in the future of training and development programs within organizations. Also, digital options and solutions may outperform the conventional in-person method used prior to the pandemic. Equipping employees with the knowledge, techniques, and competencies to use digital HR tools is essential. The implications for HR professionals and researchers are discussed.
