A Contemporary Review of The Complex Relationships Between The Dimensions of Heavy-Work Investment and Organizational Outcomes

The construct of heavy-work investment is typically bi-dimensional, revolving around the investment of both (1) time and (2) efforts at work. It appeared (or, rather, resurfaced) in the research world roughly a decade ago (Snir & Harpaz, 2012), even if one of its most prominent representatives – workaholism –appeared as early as the 1970’s. Since then, scholarly work on heavy-work investment has unveiled both complex research and theoretical results; investigating if this is a positive or a negative phenomenon for working individuals and their organizations. The current paper aims at expanding the research-thinking and to join the pioneering studies that make empirical hypotheses regarding the two dimensions of the phenomenon (investment of time and effort, separately) and their relationships to positive and/or negative outcomes in the work context.
