The Impact of Covid-19 On Organizational Innovation - A Multi-Country Analysis

Crisis innovations are critical to enable organizations to either cope with the crisis or to capitalize on opportunities that may be present in the situation. In this symposium, we examine the extent to which the Threat Opportunity-driven Innovation framework that was developed by Gopalakrishnan and Kovoor-Misra (2021), to explain innovative behaviors in the United States during the Covid-19 pandemic, is also applicable to other countries, such as Spain, South Africa, Iran, and India. We provide examples of crisis innovations during the pandemic from each of these countries. In addition, we also use the experience of these countries to extend this framework by highlighting contextual factors that influenced the process of innovation. Finally, we conclude the symposium by discussing some implications for future crisis innovation research and practice.
