Cooperating across Capitalisms: Organizing Sino-Brazilian Trade
Track: OB
Keywords: China, Brazil, Governance, Varieties of Capitalism
This paper explores the formation of new transnational business relationships between firms of two BRICS members, Brazil and China. Building on institutional theorizing, the study focuses on the organizational implications of the growing Chinese commercial presence in Brazil. Using a narrative approach to data collected through interviews, company visits, and fieldwork at trade events, the analysis profiles the practices used to manage new Sino-Brazilian relationships. The analyses paint a dynamic landscape in which new proto-institutions might be emerging as organizational activities between both countries progress.
