Differential Treatments in Team and Team Effectiveness: The Role of In-Group Subordinates
Differentiated leadership in the Chinese society is a leadership behavior that treats different subordinates differently. It is expected that the subordinates can improve their loyalty and work efficiency. Previous studies have less focus on the effect of within -group variation or on the roles of in-group members who are treated preferentially. To fill this gap, we analyzing 94 team profiles, discover that there is no significant correlation between leadership differentiation and team performance or team commitment. The correlation between leadership differentiation and team performance is moderated by the exchange with in-group members and the proportion of in-group members.
