Radical and Incremental Creativity - The Role of Enjoyment, Innovative Climate and Rewards Importance

This paper responds to recent calls for identifying mediators and moderators of reward – creativity relationship and to address the ambiguity due to treatment of creativity as a single dimensional construct. Results suggest that enjoyment mediated the effects of intrinsic rewards on radical creativity, whereas climate perceptions mediated the effects of extrinsic rewards on both radical and incremental creativity, but only when these rewards are perceived as important. The study contributes to reward - creativity research by identifying important mediating and moderating mechanisms. The results also provide insights that may help managers to promote specific types of creative behavior
